EAP Contract and Supply Teaching Positions - London, Ontario

General description of school and position:

CultureWorks is seeking skilled contract and supply English for Academic Purposes (EAP) teachers for its London, Ontario campus EAP programs.  Our programs are designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop their academic English skills to be fully prepared for their academic studies at the university level.  Established in 1998, CultureWorks is a private language school focusing on EAP, with locations in London at Brescia University College and King’s University College, in Ottawa at Carleton University, and in Toronto at Amberson High School.

Schedule: Part-time, full-time, and/or supply coverage as needed between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Reporting to Principal, CultureWorks - London, you will be responsible to:

  • Plan and teach EAP to international students at the intermediate to advanced level based on the CultureWorks curriculum

  • Deliver online components to complement classroom hours

  • Incorporate content from online asynchronous lessons using a flipped classroom model

  • Collaborate with fellow teachers to follow curriculum guidelines, create lesson plans, grade assignments, and discuss student progress

  • Ensure course delivery and accurate grading in the CultureWorks Learning Management System

  • Record attendance and generate student reports

  • Facilitate meetings with students to discuss progress and provide ongoing feedback

  • Cultivate positive relationships with staff, students, and the campus communities

 

Qualifications: 

  • TESL certificate recognized by Languages Canada

  • 2 years of EAP teaching experience

  • Cross-cultural experience with overseas teaching experience preferred

  • Online teaching experience preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Part-time IELTS Invigilator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The international English language testing system (IELTS) is a test developed by the world’s leading experts in language assessment on four key English language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

It is designed to assess the language ability of people who aim to study and work in, immigrate to and integrate into an English-speaking environment.

George Brown is looking for invigilators to work at its testing venues in Brampton, Peterborough and Waterloo.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To participate in training, learn and adhere to established policies and procedures at all times, especially related to the security of the test

  • To pick up, count and check test materials

  • To set up the test room and test that all equipment is functional

  • To distribute and administer test materials

  • To understand and read the invigilator script to test-takers

  • To collect and organize test materials and return them to the IELTS Administrator or Test Day Coordinator

  • Other duties as required

 QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must:

  • Have excellent English (written and spoken) communication abilities and be willing to read scripts in front of groups of test-takers.

  • Be a high school graduate.

Nature and Scope:  The Board/Executive leadership team of the YMCA of Western Ontario shares a vision for the excellence and a commitment to responsible stewardship as a member of the Canadian YMCA movement. The Language Skills Program Instructor is a member of the Newcomer and Community Programs staff. 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Provide language instruction to 10-20 newcomers following the curriculum outline (classes have continuous intake)
  • Ensure that the materials used are appropriate for the level of the students
  • Provide the language skills that will orientate students to everyday living in Canada using the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  • Prepare lesson plans that reflect progression in language learning acquisition in accordance with the LINC Curriculum Guidelines as well as the Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA.
  • Plan and organize in and out-of the class activities for students to enhance their language capacity and help to orientate them to the community life
  • Maintain students’ portfolios as well as attendance records
  • Submit a monthly teacher’s report indicating topics, objectives, methods and techniques, and activities used in the class
  • Conduct evaluations and promote students to the next level as appropriate
  • Participate in Professional Development opportunities as they arise such as the annual TESL Conference, PBLA Training etc.
  • Prepare written reports and participate in staff meetings and training courses
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Language Skills Site Supervisor to ensure quality programming
