www.asiaforkids.com This site has many bilingual books for children and adults. Also, there are books of fairy tales from various cultures and books about food from around the world :

www.webster.commnet.edu/grammar I just finished (as of today) a professional
learning course devoted to grammar. This site was invaluable. It contains every aspect of grammar you could possibly have a question on. What I liked best was that it had quizzes with each new topic. It is a must see if you have any grammar questions.

http://www.iei.uiuc.edu/web.pages/ESL.html geared toward ESL for adults. It has a variety of resources (reading, listening, etc and teacher resources). It is mainly a bank of links to other ESL sites.

www.starfall.com Now get ready for this....FREE BOOKS! I know, your thinking what is the catch?!? It's minor, let me explain.
This website/company is willing to send out writing journals (they really are workbooks) and a little book that students cut up and put together. They are pretty simple and fun to work with. The workbooks focus on spelling, grammar etc.

http://www.itbe.org/resource.htm
This site has lots and lots of links, helpful activities, quizzes (html, bilingual..), sites for teachers and so on

http://www.eslgold.com/site.jsp
It has ideas for lesson plans, handouts, and supplementary materials. it also has sections for speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation and more. some of the sections have different levels and even has links to other websites.

http://songsforteaching.homestead.com/ESLSongs.html

www.teachingfish.com
It is a website with useful teaching resources, grammar, tips for ESL, and much more. I liked their idea of using flash-cards as visual reinforcements as well as their games and articles.
www.daveseslcafe.com is a great to English programs, lesson plans and resources. It's also has a job board and site to with other people the field.

http://www.iaw.on.ca/~soleil/1000w.htm "A Picture is Worth a 1000 words" and a Teacher's guide is also available which provides questions to ask students. Available in many different languages for anyone who is interested.

http://www.esl-images.com and has many colour and black and white images for vocabulary or grammar activities of your choice organized into different areas and other items, such as a store with books of ESL games. You have to join to have access to everything, but there are some downloadable free samples

http://www.teflgames.com many different types of games, quizzes, word matching, and so many great ideas.
'Games also help the teacher to create contexts in which the language is useful and meaningful. The learners want to take part and in order to do so must understand what others are saying or have written, and they must speak or write in order to express their own point of view or give information.'

http://www.peacecorps.gov/wws/culture a work book for Peace Corps volunteers to instruct them about aspects of culture. I don't want to seem overly critical, but as Cullen pointed out in Nancy's article, there is the potential for cultural imperialism and arrogance; sadly, here's a good example. Chapter 6, Adjusting to a New Culture, was something I thought might, in some way, parallel The ESL experience in Canada. The "Four Levels of Cultural Adjustment detail the usual stages of adaptation, but a checklist poses the statement " There is logic to how these people behave." The Peace Corps is well intentioned, but this workbook suggests a particular naivete that has an almost missionary zeal. Have a look at " the ugliest man."
Elsewhere, there are some usable classroom activities but you really have to be selective.

www.onestopenglish.com

http://grove.ufl.edu/~klilj/samptest.htm

http://www.unifon.org/code-switch.html an excellent website that is interactive! It involves an experiment that helps you understand what is happening when code switching is put into action. It is a lot of fun and quite informative. It won't take long, so try it if you are interested! Joanne Arnonovitz

Here is a web site that has A LOT of links to various web sites for ESL teachers to use with their students or to find resources for themselves. There is too much to list... all I can say is if you have a second check it out!
